Phishing is the practice of defrauding/tricking users into giving up their usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and other personal information. Phishing emails will often try to get you to click on links that take you to fake websites; they often pretend to be from organizations such as a bank or a service that requires your log in details. Recently phishing scams have been improving their disguises, always be cautious when asked for any log in details or an email has a link to log in.
The best way to make sure you are on the right website is to click the home page, then navigate to the log in page after knowing you are on the right website for sure.
Some ways to tell if an email might be phishing spam:
- Poor spelling and odd grammar
- The TO, FROM or REPLY-TO is not correct
- The email asks for a password or other personal information
